Submit your final entry to Ice Edge through this site, by post, or by email (read on for details). If you email or upload your entry, it's a good idea to send us a disc as well, to make sure we receive it safely.  We accept word documents, pdfs and powerpoint presentations.

Tell me more about the prize first!

It's an all expenses paid trip to the Arctic next summer for forty lucky winners.

If you come up with a winning idea, you will travel to the fragile environment of Svalbard, a Norweigan island with an estimated population of 2,700.  The population is 65% Russian and 35% Norweigan.  Svalbard is known as the 'gateway to the arctic' and ice fields and glaciers cover 60% of the terrain.  You will meet scientists, explorers and local people in one of the world's harshest and most beautiful landscapes.

Interesting fact: the 'armed polar bears' in Phillip Pullman's exciting trilogy, The Dark Materials, came from Svalbard.  You can read more about this on: http://www.philip-pullman.com

What will the judges want to know? Some things to think about:
  • Why is it a good idea and how did you investigate it?
  • Who is going to use it?
  • Why is it special?
  • How would you tell people about the benefits?
  • Which celebrities you would want to use if you advertised it?
  • How would you sell your product/idea and what would it cost?
  • How have you worked together and made the most of each others strengths and talents?
  • How have you worked with business representatives?

Who?s around if we want help or get stuck?

Working in teams helps improve your ideas, so test out your plans on your teachers, local experts and businesses. The Education Business Partnership www.nebpn.org can help, so can our own Ideas page, where there?s lots of top stuff, but remember it?s new ideas we want.

You can also use our Links page and FAQ section.  And don't forget about Your Questions, Your Answers, where you can pose any question you like to the people that use this site. You may even find yourself answering someone else's question!

What happens when the judges get judging?

Edge has divided the United Kingdom into regions and will choose teams from each region to go to the national final.

Please make sure you tell us your phone number and email address when you register so that we can contact you if you make it into the finals.

If you are chosen as a finalist you will be invited to the national finals where you will have to present your idea to a judging panel.
